The “China Seismological Reference Model” (CSRM) Product Center is pleased to announce the release of the online mapping tool for the China Seismological Reference Model 1.0 (CSRM-1.0). CSRM-1.0, constructed based on seismic data recorded by 4,435 stations between 1990 and 2020, provides three-dimensional (3D) P-wave velocity (Vp), S-wave velocity (Vs), and crustal thickness within the top 100 km of the crust and uppermost mantle in continental China.

The mapping tool enables online visualization and distribution of CSRM-1.0 and is accessible from http://chinageorefmodel.org under “CSRM-1.0 Visualizer” or the following direct link http://chinageorefmodel.org/csrm-visualizers/csrm-1-0-visualizer. The model and related seismic datasets can be accessed https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8103561.

Main Functions

1. 2D Horizontal slices (Figure 1):

Users can generate and download horizontal slices of Vp, Vs, and crustal thickness at user-specified depths, along with both the plotted figures and the corresponding model data.

2. 2D Vertical Profiles (Figure 2):

Users can generate and download vertical cross-sections of Vp, Vs, and crustal thickness along a user-specified path (defined by start and end coordinates), including both the figures and corresponding profile data.

3. 1D Profiles Beneath a Single Point (Figure 3):

Users can obtain 1D depth-dependent profiles of Vp, Vs, and crustal thickness at user-specified locations (geodetic coordinates), with both the figures and profile data available for download.

4. Regional 3D Structure (Figure 4):

Users can obtain 3D Vp and Vs structures and crustal thickness within a user-specified latitude—longitude window, with figures and corresponding 3D model subsets available for download. In addition, the tool provides average 1D profiles of Vp, Vs, and crustal thickness for the selected region.

In all plots, users can interactively click to retrieve Vp, Vs, and crustal thickness at any location and depth.

The CSRM Product Center welcomes you and your colleagues to join the “CSRM” email group, so as to receive the latest CSRM news and releases in a timely manner. If you are interested in joining the email list, please send your name + organization + email address to chinageorefmodel.org@gmail.com.
